Summer Camp for Middle and High School Students from Asia, Europe and America at the Beijing Foreign Studies University (Beiwai)

Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) is the most prestigious university in China focusing on the teaching and research of foreign languages and cultures. It has established seventeen Confucius Institutes through partnership with universities in Asia, Europe and America, with the Confucius Institute at the University of Hawaii at Manoa (CI-UHM) being the only partner CI co-established by BFSU in the United States. Students participating in this summer camp will not only experience Chinese culture, but also learn about other cultures through their interactions with students from other continents.


2011 Summer Camp Information

Time: July 16-25, 2011

Place: Beijing, China

Participant: 170 foreign students, 17 foreign chaperones (10 students and 1 chaperone teacher, mainly from Hawaii, will be selected by the Confucius Institute at the University of Hawaii at Manoa).

Activities: six modules including Chinese language classes, Chinese cultural talent classes, experiencing exclusive Chinese skills, cultural tours, Chinese art appreciation, and Chinese food sampling.

Organization: students from different countries will be grouped together and given specific tasks.

Language: Chinese and English.

Cost: Students and chaperones only pay for their international travel expenses from Honolulu to Beijing. All costs while in Beijing, including meals, lodging, traffic, accident insurance, and activities, will be covered by the host institute.

Candidates: age 12-18, non-Chinese and those who have never been to China preferred.
