The Confucius Institute at University of Hawai‘i at Manoa (CI-UHM) will be offering
classes in Chinese language to members of the University and local community.


Summer 2011 Mandarin Course for students in grades 6-8 (summer school)
“Say it in Chinese” is an introductory course in Chinese will build basic conversational skills while introducing students to Chinese culture and to modern China. Students will become familiar with Chinese culture and language through storytelling, skits, creating FLASH animation in Chinese, and basic martial arts! Daily activities will build students confidence as they begin to read Mandarin Chinese, practice calligraphy, and communicate in situations they might encounter in daily Chinese life.

Dates: June 6 – July 8, 2011 (12:30 pm to 3:15 pm, Mondays – Fridays)

All classes will focus on listening and speaking, and will be taught through Pinyin.

Cost Per Course: $150 (tuition only)

Fall 2011 Business Chinese Language Classes-(Business Focused)
Target learner: members of the University and local communities who have some basic knowledge of Chinese language and can communicate using simple Chinese sentences in daily life situations.

Dates: Sept. 17 – Nov 19, 2011 (on Saturdays); 10:00 am – 12:00 pm
Location: The Shidler College of Business D201 (UH Manoa campus)
Textbook: Advanced Business Chinese
Instructor: Ning Shu

Cost Per Course: $150 (tuition only)

- A minimum enrollment of 5 students is required to offer a course.
- Cost per course is tuition only. Needed textbook(s) and teaching materials will be an additional $20, available for purchase from your instructor on the first day of classes.
- No refund after second week of class.
- Applicable parking cost on UH Manoa campus: $5/entry
